Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: hacia una ciudad sostenible, inclusiva y resiliente
Abstract (English) Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has aligned its urban strategy with the Spanish Urban Agenda and the Canary Islands Agenda 2030 to promote integrative sustainable development. The Local Action Plan encompasses more than 90 initiatives across five pillars: environment and climate resilience, inclusive urban planning, sustainable mobility, circular economy and governance. Key measures include the refurbishment of urban allotments and the creation of green corridors, the introduction of a low-emission ordinance, the Sitycleta electric bicycle service and the LPAPark platform, as well as incentives for circular economy projects and a municipal sustainability indicator system. This article outlines its design, progress and challenges in consolidating the resilient, equitable and participatory city required in the mid-Atlantic.
